SUSTAINABLE VOID

NXRTH VOID sustainability

Sustainability is not a marketing strategy for NXRTH VOID—it's a fundamental aspect of our philosophy. Our approach to sustainability goes beyond materials to encompass our entire business model and relationship with consumption.

PHILOSOPHY OF LESS

The most sustainable product is the one that's never made. We embrace this paradox by creating fewer, better things. Our collections are intentionally small and timeless, designed to transcend seasonal trends. We encourage our community to buy less but better—to invest in pieces that last both physically and aesthetically.

This philosophy extends to our production processes, where we minimize waste through careful planning and made-to-order approaches for certain products. We reject the industry standard of overproduction and seasonal discounting that encourages wasteful consumption patterns.

MATERIALS

We select materials based on their quality, durability, and reduced environmental impact. Our cotton is 100% organic, grown without synthetic pesticides or fertilizers. We're continuously researching and incorporating innovative sustainable materials, including recycled fabrics and bio-based alternatives.

PRODUCTION

All NXRTH VOID products are designed in Portugal, where we've established long-term partnerships with small, independent design studios. These studios operate under strict European creative and environmental standards, ensuring ethical design practices and responsible resource management.

TRANSPARENCY

We believe in radical transparency about our processes, costs, and challenges. For each product, we provide detailed information about materials, manufacturing, and pricing. We openly discuss the limitations and trade-offs in our sustainability efforts, acknowledging that perfect solutions rarely exist.

This transparency extends to our business practices. We regularly publish reports on our environmental impact, social initiatives, and progress toward sustainability goals. We invite dialogue with our community about how we can improve.

CIRCULAR DESIGN

We design with the entire lifecycle of our products in mind. This means creating garments that are durable, repairable, and ultimately recyclable. We offer repair services for our products and provide guidance on proper care to extend their lifespan.

For products that can no longer be repaired, we're developing a take-back program that will allow us to recycle materials into new products, closing the loop and reducing waste. This program is currently in pilot phase and will be expanded as we refine the processes.

OUR COMMITMENTS

  • Carbon Reduction: We're working to reduce our carbon footprint across all operations, with a goal of carbon neutrality by 2025. This includes optimizing shipping routes, using renewable energy in our facilities, and offsetting emissions we cannot yet eliminate.
  • Water Conservation: We partner with manufacturers who implement water recycling systems and minimize the use of harmful chemicals in dyeing and finishing processes.
  • Waste Reduction: We aim to eliminate single-use plastics from our supply chain by 2023 and are developing innovative packaging solutions that are both minimal and recyclable.
  • Social Responsibility: We ensure fair wages and safe working conditions throughout our supply chain, conducting regular audits and maintaining close relationships with our manufacturing partners.
  • Continuous Improvement: We recognize that sustainability is a journey, not a destination. We're committed to ongoing research, innovation, and adaptation of our practices as new information and technologies become available.

BEYOND PRODUCTS

Our commitment to sustainability extends beyond our products to encompass all aspects of our operations. Our digital infrastructure is designed for efficiency, using servers powered by renewable energy. Our events and installations consider environmental impact in their design and execution.

We also engage in advocacy and education around sustainable consumption and production. Through our platforms, we share information about environmental issues and promote dialogue about the role of design and fashion in creating a more sustainable future.

CHALLENGES & FUTURE DIRECTIONS

We acknowledge the inherent tensions and challenges in creating physical products while advocating for reduced consumption. We don't claim to have perfect solutions, but we're committed to continuous improvement and honest dialogue about these complexities.

Looking forward, we're exploring new business models that further decouple growth from resource consumption, including rental and resale programs, digital products, and service-based offerings. We're also investing in research and development of new materials and processes that could significantly reduce our environmental footprint.

Ultimately, our approach to sustainability is rooted in our broader philosophy: finding meaning in restraint, beauty in simplicity, and value in longevity. We believe that by creating fewer, better things, we can contribute to a more sustainable and thoughtful relationship with the material world.
